Bio
Prior to receiving my MA Degree from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 2014, I was an Interior Design Project Manager for an architecture firm out of Dallas called WKMC Architects. There I developed project design documents and presentations for clients to seek construction approval. I prepared drawings, furniture contract packages, and finish boards for upcoming and ongoing projects. I also participated in architectural competitions. After leaving Dallas, I moved back to my hometown, Corpus Christi to work for my family’s industrial construction company, D.M.B. Construction LLC. My mixed media work blends mediums learned from both job experiences. Mediums include photography, metal, architectural ink, and paint to explore subjects.
Past series works skillfully presented my observation of unwanted scrapped material left behind by workers to illustrate how in fact they are beautiful arrangements, Discarded: Exquisite Remnants represents the traditions of blue-collar men and women that work in the industrial construction industry within the South Texas region.
Currently, I am part of an artist collective, K Space Art Studios. I have been experimenting with acrylic paint, color, and organic forms such as landscapes and florals. I have also been using different materials to work on including animal bones and leather handbags. All imagery is based on South Texas surroundings and photography from past trips. In addition, it is essential to state that no animals are ever harmed for the purpose of my artwork. All skulls/bones are sourced carefully. This work conveys a newfound found appreciation of my womanhood and love for nature.
